ABOUT THE SHOW

An Exploration in Sustainable Modern Quilting is a juried gallery show of “modern quilts”, as defined by The Modern Quilt Guild. The vision for An Exploration in Sustainable Modern Quilting is to challenge quilters and our community to view and interpret what a modern quilt is and apply sustainable, environmentally friendly, materials and practices to create a functional quilt.

Any quilter residing on the Colorado Front Range was invited to submit a quilt to the show. Entrants were encouraged to submit quilts that fell within these five categories:

  1. Repurposed, rescued fabrics
  2. Renewable, sustainable new fabrics
  3. Scraps, waste, and otherwise trashed pieces of fabric
  4. Repaired, restored, and reworked ‘old’ quilts into new quilts
  5. Unusual materials

The jury panel has selected 18 quilts into the show. Each of the quilts falls within at least one of the categories. Quilters are represented from the Denver Metroplex, Boulder, communities within and surrounding Boulder County, and north to the Fort Collins area.

The Boulder Modern Quilt Guild would like to thank the Sustainability, Energy and Environment Community and the Albert A. Bartlett Science Communication Center for making this show possible.

We would like to thank Stephanie Ruyle (Spontaneous Threads) for making and donating the beautiful, and sustainably constructed, participation ribbons.

Thank you to Faurot Construction and DIV 6 for allowing us to divert wood scraps from going into their dumpster to use in the hanging display of the quilts.

The greatest thank you to the volunteers who served on the Boulder Modern Quilt Guild Show Committee.
