The August block is a fast make of varied sized HST units. It also uses squares. Please reference our paired HST tutorial.

We suggest using 2 fabrics. If you need help planning out your colors, you can download a coloring sheet for the whole quilt here.

Step 1

Cut pieces from your chosen fabrics.

Fabric A – Pink:

(2) 4” squares

(1) 7” square

Fabric B – Black:

(1) 3.5” square

(1) 6.5” square

(1) 7” square

(2) 4” squares

Units needed for August block:

(3) 3.5” A/B HST units

(2) 6.5” A/B HST units

(1) 6.5” B square

(1) 3.5” B square

Step 2

Assemble A/B HST units from 4” squares. Trim to 3.5”. Discard (1) HST unit.

Step 3

Assemble A/B HST units from 7” squares. Trim to 6.5”.

Reference our paired HST tutorial for detailed instructions.

Step 4

Arrange block layout.

Step 5

Assemble top right quadrant using 4-patch construction.

Step 6

Assemble block.

 

Step 7

Trim block to 12.5” square.
