Sep 1, 2018 | 2018 Block of the Month, Tutorial

By Laura Loewen

Our September block is a Greek Cross. This traditional block already has a modern feel. A Greek Cross block uses square, rectangles, and HST units. Please reference our paired HST tutorial for detailed instructions.

We recommend using 3 fabrics. If you need help planning out your colors, you can download a coloring sheet for the whole quilt here.

Step 1

Cut pieces from your chosen fabrics.

Fabric A (white):

(2) 5” squares for HST units

(4) 2.5”x4.5” rectangles

Fabric B (aqua):

(2) 5” squares for HST units

Fabric C (green):

(4) 2.5”x4.5” rectangles

(1) 4.5” square

Units needed for Greek Cross:

(4) A/B 4.5” HST units

(4) A 2.5”x4.5” rectangles

(4) C 2.5”x4.5” rectangles

Step 2

Assemble A/B HST units from 5” squares. Trim to 4.5”.

Reference paired HST tutorial for detailed instructions.
