2023 Challenges and Activities

One thing we used to do at open sew days was to have a challenge project or a little demo. Now that we are getting back to having regular, in person open sews again, we wanted to have a few things throughout the year.

Block of the Month

We’d love to have you join the Block of the Month! The full directions are in the Member Area.

Make sure you share your finished blocks using #bouldermqgbom23

Other Activities and Challenges

March Open Sew: Make a Quilted Nametag

There will be a few text fabrics if you’d like to fussy cut your name. There will also be markers if you’d rather use the. Maybe you want to try embroidering your name, there’s tons of options!

May Open Sew: Spring Cleaning and Orphan Block Exchange

We all have those random blocks laying around. The ones that were going to be a quilt but never quite turned into one. Or maybe we changed our minds about the colors. Bring those blocks to the May open sew and maybe your block will spark someone to make use of it!

Also, bring along any fabrics, books, or other quilting supplies that you’d like to pass along.

July Evening Meeting: Christmas in July

Do you always want to make a Christmas quilt but are too busy during the holidays? Start a quilt early and show it off at the July Ice Cream Social meeting.

September Open Sew: Needlebook Exchange

Make a needle book (watch for blog post tutorials) and bring it to the open sew to exchange.

If you’d like to organize an activity or show a demo at an open sew, let us know!

Introducing the Boulder Modern Quilt Guild Block of the Month Challenge 2023!

We know that the last few years have been difficult and it’s been hard to stay connected and motivated to sew. We are hoping to change that in 2023 with our new Block of the Month challenge that Alia will be leading!

This challenge is different from ones we’ve done in the past and should be a lot of fun. Alia has chosen 24 blocks from the Quilt Builder Card Decks and each month participants will choose a card for that month’s block. That means that you might have a different block from other people participating so everyone’s quilt will be unique.

THE BLOCKS

Each month at the evening meeting you will draw a number and be assigned a block. You will be given instructions for multiple sizes and you can choose which you would like to do,

If you cannot make the evening meeting you will be able to draw virtually and get your block.

Post your finished blocks each month using the hashtag #bouldermqgbom23 There will be some giveaways throughout the year and the more blocks posted on time, the more entries you’ll have!

More information will be sent out in the email newsletter so keep an eye out! We can’t wait to see what everyone makes!
