December Holiday Party and Announcements

December Holiday Party and Announcements

There will not be a December evening meeting, instead we will be celebrating with a guild holiday party. The party will be at Monique’s house in Longmont on Thursday, December 6. Members, please check your email for full party details and you can RSVP at the member section.

For the party we will be doing a handmade ornament exchange. Bring a wrapped ornament and you will leave with someone else’s wonderful creation.

Several years ago, member Rebecca tried her hand at making a Scandinavian fabric star. It’s tricky, but there are plenty of tutorials and videos to walk you through it.

Mollie from Wild Olive made an english paper pieced ornament. If you still haven’t tried EPP, this would be a great small project to give it a try! The Boulder MQG learned EPP in April and the recap post has a few tips and tricks.

Stephanie from Swoodson Says has a tutorial for combining tiny fabric scraps with reverse appliqué felt. This could be made into any shape and is such a great idea.

There are a ton of options for handmade ornaments, have fun and we can’t wait to see what you make! We’ve put together a Pinterest board of Handmade Ornament Ideas if you need some inspiration.

2019 Due Increase and Early Bird Registration Giveaway

In 2019 the Modern Quilt Guild chapter dues will be increasing by 20%. As a result of the increasing dues, as well as the growing membership and activity involvement of the Boulder MQG, our membership voted to increase dues to $50/year.

We have begun collecting 2019 dues on November 1, 2018. We encourage everyone to renew or join early.

Members who renew before December 1, 2018 will be entered into an Early Bird giveaway for a great quilty prize.

Members who renew on time by December 31, 2018 will be entered into a giveaway. *Early Bird renewals will be entered into both drawings.

January 1, 2019, members who have not paid dues will lose access to the bouldermqg.com member area, other Boulder MQG member benefits, and the official members’ only email list.  Any member can choose to renew membership on any date after January 1 and be fully reinstated when dues payment is received.

Community Outreach Quilt Donation – Boulder Police Department Victim Services Unit

Community Outreach Quilt Donation – Boulder Police Department Victim Services Unit

The Boulder MQG Community Outreach committee is responsible for donating the quilts that are created by members to benefit local organizations.

On Friday, February 9,  Community Outreach donated 8 quilts to the Boulder Police Department Victim Services Unit.  The Victim Services Unit is staffed by dedicated and trained employees and 55 volunteers that immediately respond when contacted.  After a horrible or tragic event a person may be in shock and feel numb and confused.  This is where the Victim Services Unit comes into play.

Advocates are dispatched to the scene of a crime, accident, or a victim’s home to assist during the initial trauma. The advocates provide crisis intervention, emotional support, resources, referrals and follow up.  There are times when a quilt is the perfect item to share with the victim, or family of a victim, giving them a sense of comfort and warmth.

The Victim Services Unit was grateful to receive the quilts and appreciative of our donations. Thank you to all of the guild members who worked hard on these quilts to make this donation possible and especially to Barb and Monique for making the donation possible. If you have any questions about the work done by the Community Outreach committee, please click here or contact us with questions.

New Member Area!

New Member Area!

We have a very exciting addition to our website, a special Members Area. All current members can access this area with a login (if you haven’t, you can register here. Please keep in mind that Member Access requires manual approval, so please be patient with us.)  Your user name and password will arrive in your inbox from “WordPress”, please look for that email after you submit your request.

More information on membership to the Boulder MQG is available here.

The Member Area is a collection of in depth content and resources exclusively for members of the Boulder MQG. We have received  a lot of requests for PDFs of the Block of the Month tutorials, so we’ve made these just for members. We also want to make sure that even if members aren’t able to attend the evening meetings, they are still getting that content. So in addition to the meeting recaps, the full presentations will be available to download.

We hope this is a valuable resource to you!
